The launch of 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target has finally arrived!! If you were a trooper, you stayed up last night shopping your wish list as fast as you could. And believe me, it was late by the time everything was up.
Let's discuss the in store experience!
3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Shirt Dress in Floral Print; 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Tote with Gusset in Black; 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Tote with Gusset in Taupe
Purses went fast this morning. But the Target staff kindly brought more merchandise from the back to restock the shelves.
In my opinion, bags are well made. Zippers are sturdy and pocket clasps are magnetic. The big bags are BIG! Lots of room. Zipper pocket and cell phone pockets inside. None of the bags are real leather, and there are no blaring Target logos on the outside.
The Boom sweater has been coveted since the lookbook debuted. The gray to me is a little darker than a "heather gray". The "Boom" logo actually doesn't stand out that much so it's not in your face.
The white ruffle tank is soft and lightweight. I didn't try this one one, but it would be a nice basic to have.
Taupe color in person isn't so bad. May need to use the bag as a neutral since taupe can be a hard color to match.
3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Sparkle Sweater in Navy; 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Animal Print Knit Dress; 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Silky Skirt in Navy
The Sparkle Sweater runs LARGE! Looked sort of basic to me, so it wasn't anything too special. The Animal Print dress is fun and a lightweight cotton, but the ruching on the side made it look almost like a maternity dress. If you are pregnant, it would be so comfortable to wear!
The Silky Skirt in Navy and Animal Print are some of my favorite circle skirts to come out of a designer collaboration. The reason: the waistband is slightly stretchy! But as with other collabs, the length of these skirts for me is too long. I'm 5'4" and it hits at the unflattering part of my knee. But pretty skirts if you're tall!
3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Men's Trench Coat in Khaki; 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Men's Pique Pocket Tee in Ebony/Navy
The best part of this collection (besides the bags) is the men's clothing! The t shirts, shoes, and backpacks are awesome and very "street style" cool. Cool enough that my husband wanted in on the designer action and he couldn't care less about these collaborations!
The men's clothing seemed to fit true to size and can easily be worn for women if desired.
Trying on the Boom sweater. Cotton is a thick fabric and is not fleece-lined like the Prabal Gurung for Target sweater from the Neiman Marcus x Target Holiday Collection of last year.
I love the ribbed hem at the bottom and how it overlaps. Adds a bit of character. Very cozy and has an oversized fit. I am 5'4", about a size 8 and this is a Medium.
I am in LOVE with this pullover!! The print is not loud and obnoxious at all, which I was sort of scared of from the lookbook. It is bold, but not overly. Will be a great neutral.
I love the satin back and sleeves, with the lightweight cotton front and hems. Does not have an oversized fit, but runs large. I am wearing a Medium.
This blouse is another favorite I picked up. The print is really fun and the black tones it down making it a fun addition for fall. Will also transition into spring/summer.
Has an asymmetrical hem (shorter in front), and a full button placket. Each blouse is slightly different because of the placement of the print.
I am a 34 D bust and the Medium fit perfectly. May need to use just a hint of double sided tape at one of the button openings.
The only crap thing about this purchase is that you can't try it on. So I honestly have no idea if it's going to fit. The bust area is my biggest worry.
But the print is pretty, and I like the silky satin fabric. May be worth the gamble.
If you own the Jason Wu for Target scarves, these are made exactly the same. Sheer fabric, well-placed logo, and a huge square shape.
Love the print and I may very well be wearing this scarf as a belt in the near future. :)
Things to Know!
- Sizing seems to run large in most items. The Navy Sequined Dress seems to run slightly small or TTS. I expect this as most designer collab dresses with this sort of fabric run small.
- Lot of styles of bags are sold in store, but the big sellers are the Mini Satchel in Gold and Black, and the Top Handle Crossbody Bags.
- Zippers are tricky on some clothing items. The Floral Print Dress, Peplum Tops, and the Skirts all seemed to have have zip problems.
- Target will NOT be restocking online! The best way to get something you missed out on is to visit Target stores in a few days after everyone has gotten their online orders and returns what they don't want.
- And the best piece of advice: Most ONLINE EXCLUSIVES that get returned to store automatically go 70% clearance!! This has happened with every designer collaboration I've shopped. So keep your eyes peeled for online exclusives as you can score big time!!
Good luck and happy shopping!!
